The Growlers Six Music festival was the perfect way to celebrate this year’s “Halloweekend” for music-lovers of all genres. After last year’s Beach Goth 5 weather and venue fiasco, the sixth annual music festival hosted by the band The Growlers received a title and venue revamp. Located at the LA Waterfront in San Pedro, California, the site proved to be the perfect size to accommodate the festival-goers, 3 main stages (as well as a big-top stage), and carnival-like attractions. While the genres of the bands performing varied from reggae and rap to punk and alternative, some of the most anticipated acts included the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, The B-52s, and of course, the Growlers, who performed both nights. Attendees came from a variety of locations; I talked to three teens that drove all the way from Las Vegas and two groups of friends from Australia, although for the most part fans were based in Orange and Los Angeles County. Overall, the vibes were positive the entire weekend with fans and bands alike dressing up in the spirit of Halloween. Marketed as a “genre-defying” music festival, The Growlers Six united artists and lovers of the art of all kinds through talented acts of many genres.
