The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York, NY — July 9, 2024

On July 9th, Cavetown (aka Robin “Robbie” Skinner) took the stage at Pier 17 in New York City, co-headlining a memorable show with Mother Mother. Closing out the evening, Robbie delivered a performance that was both intimate and electric, embodying the essence of his music and the deep connection he shares with his fans. The night was filled with magical moments, starting with a fan handing Robbie a pride flag during the heartfelt song, “Sweet Tooth.” The crowd’s energy was palpable as Robbie, ever the charming performer, engaged them with playful banter.

Before launching into “Frog,” he asked, “I have a very serious question, lots of stakes… Do you like frogs?” The response was a wild, euphoric cheer reminiscent of the minions reacting to Gru stealing the moon. As the song “Frog” began, the crowd’s excitement reached a fever pitch, chanting “froggy, froggy, froggy!” as a crew member in a frog onesie brought out a keyboard. Robbie encouraged fans to wave around their frog paraphernalia, further enhancing the whimsical atmosphere. The “yippee agenda” became a recurring theme throughout the night. After every song, high-pitched “yippees” echoed through the venue, adding to the playful and joyous vibe of the concert. Robbie’s exclamation of “yippee!” spurred these reactions, showcasing the unique bond between the artist and his audience.

During “Juliet,” another touching moment occurred when a fan handed Robbie a bracelet, a testament to the close and personal connection he fosters with his fans. Waving a trans flag and sprinting around the stage, Robbie celebrated inclusivity and self-expression with infectious enthusiasm. He eventually tied the flag around his neck like a cape before launching into the empowering “Boys Will Be Bugs.” Taking a moment to appreciate the stunning views from the rooftop venue, Robbie quipped, “I love the big snapple, where dreams are made of,” endearing himself further to the crowd with his humor and charm. This acknowledgment of the unique setting added a special touch to the evening, highlighting the picturesque backdrop of New York City.

Cavetown’s performance at Pier 17 was a testament to his growth as an artist and his ability to create an unforgettable live experience. With playful interactions, heartfelt moments, and an undeniable connection with his fans, Robbie once again proved why Cavetown remains a beloved figure in the indie music scene. Fans left the venue with hearts full of joy, eagerly anticipating the next opportunity to see Cavetown perform live.
