The Chapel in San Francisco, CA — April 18, 2025

Hong Kong-raised Gareth Tong, also known as Gareth.T, brings his Expedition North America Tour to San Francisco for an evening at The Chapel, a club venue nestled in the city’s Mission district. He delivers rich vocals in his ballad-like performances as he sings in both English and Cantonese. His show begins with his soulful R&B songs, including one of his most popular tracks, “boyfriend material.” Also from this set was a performance of a song called “Navy,” which he mentioned is inspired by Frank Sinatra’s music. The combination of Gareth’s vocals, his accompanying keyboard-pianist, and additional orchestral backtracks created an emotional and almost cinematic vibe. Part-way into the set, Gareth changes it up by performing more of his high-energy rap songs, showcasing his musical range as he fires up the crowd and even jumps down to mosh with them for a moment. Later in the show, he picked out members of the audience to bring on stage and join him for part of his duet song, “honest.” As a way of appreciation, he gives each duetting person a hug before they return to the audience. Gareth.T highlighted his talent this evening through a lively performance that was both gentle and exciting.
