The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York, NY — July 23, 2024

As Two Door Cinema Club took the stage to the opening melodies of “This Is The Life,” the crowd erupted in unison, our collective inner childhoods instantly healed. In that moment, nothing mattered but dancing and singing our hearts out for the next hour and a half.

The band led us on a nostalgic indie rock journey, showcasing their most celebrated albums, Tourist History and Beacon. It felt as though TDCC’s most dedicated fans were right there with them, singing along to every lyric, from classics to newer hits like “Bad Decisions,” “Lavender,” “Everybody’s Cool,” and “Lucky.”

The energy throughout the performance — both on stage and in the audience — was electric. Moments like these remind me of music’s power to unite people, transcending whatever is happening in our lives. It’s a sacred experience, leaving everything at the venue’s doors and immersing ourselves in shared joy and pure euphoria on the dance floor. To me, that’s the essence of community. I know that my 16-year-old self, who listened to TDCC while scrolling through Tumblr, would be thrilled that my 26-year-old NYC-living self is now experiencing this  live — and even more so to be shooting the concert and writing this recap.

With New York City’s skyline and the Statue of Liberty as part of the band’s audience, Two Door Cinema Club will undoubtedly remember this sold-out night (and the next night’s sold out show) for years to come.
