In 2025, our modern definition of folk music encompasses artists whose sounds blend punk, country, rock, and more. ​Newport Folk Festival has been at the forefront of this evolution of the genre since the festival’s conception in 1959, and each year they feature artists that represent many different facets of folk.

This year’s festival will take place at the scenic waterfront of Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island from July 25-27, 2025. The three-day event traditionally features local food, art, and craft vendors that supplement the vibrant cultural landscape of the weekend. As a uniquely local attraction, the festival’s reputation precedes it and every year tickets can be expected to sell out before any performances are announced. 

As of April, the 2025 lineup includes rising contemporary artists MJ Lenderman, Dehd, and Saya Gray, bigger names in country music like Maren Morris and Luke Combs, as well as established indie and folk artists such as Mt. Joy, Waxahatchee, Alex G, Jeff Tweedy, Iron & Wine, Jessica Pratt, and more.

Newport Folk’s rolling lineup announcements began in February and will continue through July, with some performances remaining a mystery until the artists set foot on the stage. Surprise guests from recent years include Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlisle, and Beck.
