In a day and age in which new music festivals seem to be sprouting up every other weekend, it can be tough to identify what truly makes each one unique. Festivals can be a lot- hot days in the sun, sore backs, heat stroke, and copious amounts of dust. Standing in a crowd all day and counting down the minutes until your favorite artist hits the stage is tiring, but worth it. What if you could do all that and more, poolside, while enjoying an incredible meal and watching the sun set over the ocean? Let me introduce you to KAABOO Del Mar.
“Made for music lovers by music lovers” is the mantra of KAABOO, which, rightfully so, is the main attraction at this arts & entertainment event. Located in Del Mar, California (about 25 minutes north of the city of San Diego), KAABOO has created a musical lineup that throws together legendary musicians from each decade into a melting pot that truly satisfies everyone. Only at KAABOO can Blondie, Post Malone, Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, and Halsey be on the same day. Check out the lineup in full here!
KAABOO is the epitome of an “all-inclusive” event that combines the wonder of a music festival with comedy, expansive art installations, world class cuisine, and a mix-up of yesterday and today’s top singers/bands. As someone who has attended for the past (and only) three years, I’ve seen what aspects have made KAABOO successful from the get-go, as well as what they’ve learned and improved upon. KAABOO prides itself on comfort, which has been refined and restructured heavily since its birth. Decked out with sand, grass, and palm trees, the Sunset Cliffs main stage overlooks Del Mar’s dog beach and provides unforgettably picturesque moments. Even so, VIP attendees have access to a pool with direct views of the Grandview Stage, allowing for time to soak up the sun and relax. Not VIP? BASK upgrades are also available for GA attendees to add on for access to the pool pass as well! The Del Mar Fairgrounds/Racetrack, in which KAABOO takes place, is the perfect size; it allows you to travel easily from stage to stage, stopping for an acai bowl along way.
KAABOO is here to remind you that it’s “not just another festival” and is designed in such a way that makes each day more exciting than the last. Where else can you go from seeing The All-American Rejects, to singing along to Katy Perry’s hit “Firework”, to finishing the night by watching a stand-up comedy show that will have you and your friends mimicking lines for following week? Even if you just need a break from it all, the fairgrounds provide common spaces, seating areas, and overall clean facilities that you can lounge in while you bask in the San Diego sun.
If that wasn’t enough, KAABOO’s prices are reasonable for what can be packed into each day. GA passes are set at $279 for 3 Days and $139 for 1 Day. Click here for wristband purchasing!
KAABOO takes place from Friday, September 14thto Sunday, September 16th. See you where the surf meets the turf! // Words and Photos by Dillon Matthew.
