Portland went from a small city, largely unknown to the world outside of the Pacific Northwest, to a burgeoning epicenter of cultural zeitgeist in a few short years.

While its prominence is only recent, its beauty is constant. Trees and ferns reclaim the sidewalks of quiet streets in old neighborhoods, national parks run through city limits, and on a clear day mountains impose upon the skyline. Portland would not be Portland without the breathtaking, natural beauty it exists within. It is the deep emeralds of evergreen foliage, the piercing grey of an overcast day, and the smell of coffee and the wettest rain.

Part of the beauty of Portland is its closeness. Forested mountains, high deserts, and stunning coasts are no further than a day trip promising a scenic route along the way. For the outdoorsy person, this city is a dream come true. For the more indoors-inclined, the countless coffeeshops and reading nooks of beloved bookstores will keep you content.

Despite what cultural stereotypes would have you believe, Portland is not made up only of lumberjack types and hipsters with petite and tasteful septum piercings. The growing number of people that call the city their home are do-ers and creators. It may have changed a lot over the years, but that one thing has remained the same.

Strangers become fast friends in line at the latest brunch spot, on the endless trails just outside the city limits, and at concert venues over a local beer likely brewed by a friend of a friend. No matter which neighborhood you find yourself in, there will be no shortage of restaurants and unique one-off shops selling anything from salts to uncommon board games to organic tea. Though, ask any Portlander, and they will quickly share their favorites. Portlanders new and native are notorious foodies. These priceless rain outposts make the City of Roses irresistibly charming. To know Portland is to love Portland – quirks, charms, rainy days and all.
