Modern Alibi — Amos Southend in Charlotte, NC — July 13, 2023

Speechless, Exhilarated, Captivated and Inspirational– I could go on and on of course, but these are just a few words that came to mind when seeing Modern Alibi display their skills on stage for the first time. With nothing holding them back and a passion to please, this Charlotte based band brought enough electrifying energy to power multiple cities at the same time. Modern Alibi, an alt-rock band hailing from North Carolina and consisting of members Holden Scott (guitar, vocals), Sloane Letourneau (guitar), Josh King (bass), and Christian Sturt (drums) headlined at AMOS Southend, a renown venue in the Queen City.

“Seventies” is the band’s first single ever (released earlier this year) was the intro and crowd wrangler of the night. Delving into their unreleased EP, new original songs were brought to light throughout the show. “Boy U Better,” “Shoegazer” and “Rosé” are just a few of the iconic names that you might be seeing on streaming platforms soon.

With the sheer amount of synergy and indisputable talent that this band possesses, they performed covers of some of my favorite songs that night and performed them as if they wrote the hits themselves. “Somebody Told Me” by The Killers, “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” by Cage The Elephant, “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish, and “Yellow” by Coldplay all executed with such fiery enthusiasm and authenticity that they could melt the coldest heart.

Modern Alibi finessed their way into my top five favorite bands without even trying, this band just genuinely loves putting on a breathtaking show. No matter who’s watching, they’ll shred and rip across the stage as if it were their last time playing together. With Holden’s alluring vocals, Sloane’s unlimited spirit, Josh’s steadfast heart, and Christian’s unique tenacity, this group is the perfect recipe to become a band for the ages.
