01/15/17 –XFINITY Live!, Philadelphia, PA

Despite the cold winter weather, hundreds of Radio 104.5 listeners crowded into Philadelphia’s outdoor XFINITY Live! for an jam-packed day of music. First up on the second stage was Run River North. The band brought chill folk elements on violin and piano to their performance and combined the sound with high energy guitar riffs on hits such as “Pretender” and “Run or Hide”. Next on the main stage was Judah and the Lion. With an eclectic mix of instruments and a humorous stage presence, the group engaged the audience from the beginning. Their set consisted of songs from their recent album “Folk Hop N Roll”, as well as a fantastic cover of The Killer’s “Mr. Brightside” that featured a banjo. After Judah and the Lion, LP gave the audience her cool old-school vibes. Her voice is something that is absolutely amazing to experience live and shines on tracks “Into the Wild” and “Lost on You”. With the cold beginning to sink in, Capital Cities came on just in time. They turned the crowd into one big dance party through “Vowels”, “Kangaroo Court” and “Safe and Sound”, and they even lead everyone in doing their signature move, the “Capital Cities Shuffle”. Following Capital Cities came the powerful and edgy Phantogram. After recently releasing their fantastic album “Three”, the group embarked on a national tour, with one of their last stops being Winter Jawn. The audience was treated to songs from all three LPs, with highlights such as “Same Old Blues”, “When I’m Small” and “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore”. Lead singer Sarah Barthel and guitarist Joshua Carter are an epically cool pairing and did not fail to bring that element to their performance. Closing out the night on the main stage was Grouplove. At this point in the night, the temperature began dropping significantly, but Grouplove had an amazing effect on the audience. The atmosphere of the entire show changed, with everyone jumping, dancing, and singing every word. This band has a presence like none other, and their music never fails to make people happy wherever they play. Finishing their set with “Welcome to Your Life”, there was not a single person who did not leave with a smile on their face. Overall, Radio 104.5’s Winter Jawn 2017 was an immense success and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for Philadelphia next year.
