Frost Amphitheater in Stanford, CA — June 2, 2023

The Re:SET traveling festival had Stanford’s Frost Amphitheater filled to the brim Friday night. Headliner LCD Soundsystem accompanied by Jamie xx, Idles, and Big Freedia brought crowds young and old to share their love of electronic music.

Jamie xx let the music (and gigantic disco ball) speak for itself, playing an electric DJ set that energized the crowd. Dancing festival goers were shown on the big screen as videographers integrated themselves into the sea of fans, creating feelings of intimacy and connection. His set consisted of a perfectly curated combination of music from both his In Colour album and various remixed tracks from his band, The XX.

LCD Soundsystem seamlessly blended elements of dance, punk, disco, and indie rock, creating a sound that is nostalgic and timeless, as their long-time success has proven time and time again. The setlist is carefully curated, featuring a mix of crowd favorites and deep cuts, ensuring an immersive and dynamic experience for both long-time fans and newcomers alike. Synthesizers accompanied by guitars and drums give an electronic yet punk sound. “Dance Yrself Clean” kept the crowd dancing throughout the night, while “Someone Great” elicited both joy and melancholy. The show closed under a beautiful full moon and fans head home to prepare for Saturday and Sunday’s concerts featuring Steve Lacy, Boy Genius and more to follow.
