Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, NC — February 16, 2024

The Brook & The Bluff’s debut at the Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, North Carolina, was nothing short of a dream. As a sold-out show, the venue was filled with friends and fans from all corners of the state, all eager and thrilled to witness the band’s soulful melodies, one of a kind dance moves, and an authentic performance.

This was my second time being able to see the band live, and it was just as memorable as the first; maybe even more. From the moment they took the stage, there was a sense of homecoming, as if the band and the audience were old friends reuniting. Each member of the band is a powerhouse in their own right, but together, they create a musical journey that surpasses all expectations. The five-man group– composed of Joseph Settine (frontman), Alec Bolton (guitarist), John Canada (drummer), Kevin Canada (keyboardist), and Fred Lankford (bassist) are unlike any group of musicians I’ve ever seen.

One of the highlights of the night was their performance of “Misnomer,” my personal favorite. The way they bring that record to life on stage is nothing short of magical, showcasing their talent and passion for their craft. The harmonies were tight, and the instrumentation flowed like water.

What sets The Brook & The Bluff apart is not just their musical prowess, but also their connection with the audience. They have a way of making everyone in the room feel like they’re part of something special, like they’re sharing a piece of themselves that will be remembered long after the music fades. Overall, The Brook & The Bluff delivered a
performance that was heartfelt, earnest, and timeless. If you ever have the chance to see them live, don’t hesitate— it’s an adventure you won’t want to miss.
