11/4-11/6/16 – Sherwood Forest, Austin, TX

The inaugural Sound On Sound Fest was one for the books. The festival, located at a Renaissance Faire on the outskirts of Austin, was full of surprises. Sound on Sound transformed the grounds into a wonderland of good music and good times. Along with the music, there were vendors galore. Most of the vendors were local to Austin, such as Juiceland and Prototype Vintage. Festival goers were also able to participate in revamped medieval style activities like bubble jousting (basically bubble soccer without the soccer). The balance of vendors, activities, and music made this festival an amazing getaway from the often hectic downtown Austin. The lineup was spectacular and consisted of bands like Touché Amoré, Fidlar, Phantogram, Wild Nothing, Jagwar Ma, Beach House, and Purity Ring. The array of music genres presented at the festival drew a diverse crowd. One of the standout acts of the festival was Hinds who took the stage and fascinated fans and onlookers alike. The Spanish indie band’s high energy and carefree spirit controlled the crowd as they played into the night. Another standout act was Purity Ring. The band captivated fans with their intricate setup and whimsical music. Although the weather disrupted the last day of the festival, fans were not phased and partied during the rain as the bands played on. Acts like Courtney Barnett, Young Thug, and Explosions in the Sky closed out the festival leaving fans mesmerized in anticipation for next year.
