Having spent 99% of my teen pocket money on merchandise, CDs, DVDs, and posters on Simple Plan, it’s a wonder how I had only seen them last Saturday for the first time. Yes, I’m no longer 12 years old and my angsty teen self, but that didn’t stop me from having the best night ever at Simple Plan’s No Pads No Helmets Just Balls Tour, where the band played through their entire debut and the hits to boot. A wave of nostalgia hit the post-emo crowd of 20-somethings, who all sang at the top of their lungs like they were in middle school again, relating to lyrics that weren’t actually as emo as we had previously thought. Though the band (and we) are a lot older than they were when the debut had come out, Pierre Bouvier and co. were unrelentingly energetic, hopping around the stage and rallying up the crowd during every song. The 15th anniversary show of their first record was as nostalgia and as heartwarming as I had hoped. See you in two years for the “Still Not Getting Any” tour?
