Perspectives submission by photographer, Kristen Hinz: “I have always been enamored by artists who connected deeply with nature— particularly the poet Mary Oliver, who intimately cultivated her relationship with nature as if she were married to it: taking early morning walks, laying in tall grass, and trying to capture the language she felt the earth speak. “Bloom” is my way of having that communion. Kat and Karen immediately, creatively found ways to embrace it, wearing the flowers so that they almost looked like they were sprouting from their bodies in lush crowns and wings. I loved exploring femininity, friendships, and nature with them.”
