Music

I had the privilege of photographing and interviewing 20-year-old, Delaware based artist, Jwasabi. This project at its core, is a fusion of visual and verbal storytelling. It was an opportunity for me to not only capture this talented artist in a series of powerful images but also to document the personal narrative that drives his artistry. Creating this piece of work was not only to create captivating images, it was also a way to document the start of a successful music career.

How long have you been making music?

JWASABI: I’ve been making music since late 2020.

Who’s your biggest inspiration?

JWASABI: My biggest inspiration I’d say is Lil Tecca because when I first started rapping he was someone who I saw that was a teenager and doing all the things I aspired to do. I honestly related to a lot of the things he’d say on his Instagram lives or in his songs.

Why is this the path you chose to pursue?

JWASABI: This is the path I chose to pursue because when I started making music at sixteen. It was the first thing I’ve done in my life up to that point that really made me feel like I understood what true passion meant and it gave and still gives me a feeling I can’t describe.

What pushes you to make music?

JWASABI: Honestly just my own love for it and my eagerness for others to hear my music and be able to have someone to relate to and know that they can pursue whatever it is they want.
